You could build a website about family camping, home fitness, gardening, crafts, photography or almost any other subject where people actively look for information and products.
Wealthy Affiliate helps you:

- Create a Business Hub and action plan.
- Build and host a WordPress website.
- Research questions and content opportunities.
- Draft articles, social content and video scripts.
- Learn about SEO, affiliate marketing and audience growth.
- Get technical help and community support.
You then monetise that business through suitable products, services or advertising.
Promote Wealthy Affiliate
The second route is to recommend Wealthy Affiliate itself.
Every member can access an affiliate link from the Earn area. There is no separate application. Someone who follows your link can begin with a free Starter account. If that referral later pays for an eligible membership, you receive a commission.
The official Wealthy Affiliate affiliate page explains that commissions follow qualifying payments and can continue when a referred membership renews. Commissions are held through a short refund window before being released. Refunded payments reverse the related commission.

How Does a Niche Website Make Money?
Imagine that you create a website for parents who want to start camping with young children.
You might publish articles covering:
- What families need for their first camping trip.
- How to choose a family tent.
- Camping meals children will eat.
- Ways to keep children warm at night.
- Reviews and comparisons of useful equipment.
Those articles could attract visitors through Google, Bing, Pinterest, Facebook or YouTube. When a reader clicks a relevant affiliate link and buys an eligible product, the retailer pays you a commission.
Wealthy Affiliate does not pay that commission. It helped you build the website, learn the process and create the content. The retailer or affiliate network pays you.
This distinction matters because some beginners assume that finishing the Wealthy Affiliate training automatically unlocks an income. It does not.

You are not restricted to promoting Wealthy Affiliate.
Depending on your niche, you could join programmes operated by:

Affiliate marketing is central to Wealthy Affiliate, but it is not your only option.

Advertising is unlikely to produce meaningful income when a website only receives a small number of monthly visitors.
Digital Products
You could create and sell:

Digital products can provide stronger margins, but you still need a clear problem, a suitable product and a way to reach buyers.
Services

Services can sometimes produce income sooner because you need fewer clients than you would need advertising visitors. The trade-off is that you are exchanging time and expertise for money.
Sponsorships
Brands may pay for sponsored articles, newsletters, videos or social content. This normally becomes more realistic once you have a defined audience and evidence of engagement.
How Does the Wealthy Affiliate Referral Programme Work?
The process is relatively straightforward:
- Join Wealthy Affiliate and access your link inside Earn.
- Share the link through relevant and properly disclosed content.
- A reader follows your link and creates a free Starter account.
- The referral explores the platform and decides whether a paid membership suits them.
- You earn a commission if they make a qualifying payment.
- You may earn further commissions when their membership renews.
Wealthy Affiliate currently offers Starter, Builder, Premium and Premium Plus+. Starter is free. The three paid tiers differ mainly in AI capacity and the number of included websites.

The monthly commission can recur while the referral remains on the same eligible subscription. An annual commission is paid against the qualifying yearly payment.
Commission rates, prices and programme terms can change. Members should check the Earn area for the current figures before publishing their own calculations.
What Could Recurring Commissions Look Like?
If you referred one active monthly member to each paid tier, the current commission would be:
- Builder: $12 a month.
- Premium: $20 a month.
- Premium Plus+: $40 a month.
- Combined total: $72 a month.
That would equal $864 over 12 months if all three members remained on those plans for the full year.
This is an illustration, not an income forecast. Referrals can cancel, change plans or receive an eligible refund. You also need to attract three suitable people and help them understand what they are joining.
Can You Make Money With a Free Wealthy Affiliate Account?
Free Starter members can access an affiliate link and refer people. You do not need to buy a paid membership simply to become a Wealthy Affiliate affiliate.
However, a free account provides limited platform usage. Someone planning to create a substantial website and content business will need to compare the paid plans with the costs and tools they actually require.
Do not upgrade purely because you expect referral income to cover the membership. Upgrade because the training, hosting, tools and capacity make sense for the business you intend to build.
Do You Have to Promote Wealthy Affiliate?
No. You can use Wealthy Affiliate without ever recommending it.
Many members build websites in unrelated niches and make money through external affiliate programmes, products or services.
In my view, beginners should first learn how to create genuinely helpful content and understand their chosen audience. You will be in a better position to recommend Wealthy Affiliate once you have used it, experienced its strengths and recognised its limitations.
Some members promote Wealthy Affiliate before they have developed much expertise elsewhere. That can become a problem when their referrals need practical help and the person who introduced them cannot provide it.

There is no standard figure.

My first affiliate commission took roughly six months.
That did not prove I had created a reliable income. It proved that a real person could find my content, follow a recommendation and complete a purchase.
Your first commission could happen sooner or take much longer. A service business with an existing network may find a client before a new affiliate website attracts meaningful search traffic. A blogger starting without an audience may need months of consistent work before seeing a sale.
