Hi, I’m John.
I’m a husband, dad, blogger, and working parent.
Like many families, we’ve spent years trying to balance work, money, and family life.
Along the way, I learned something that changed how I think about success:

Time is more valuable than money.
That’s why I created Flex For Families.
The Lesson I Learned the Hard Way
For several years, my wife and I ran a successful wedding entertainment business called Feel the Magic Ltd. alongside our full-time jobs.
On paper, things looked great.
We were taking bookings, growing the business, and building something we hoped would create a better future for our family.
But there was a problem.
Most of our work happened at weekends.

While other families were spending time together, we were travelling to venues, setting up events, and working late into the evening.
Our son was growing up, and we were missing more of that time than we wanted to admit.
At the same time, he was facing challenges at school and needed us more than ever.
Yet we kept pushing forward because we believed the business would eventually give us more freedom.
Looking back, we were chasing the right goal in the wrong way.

The Drive Home That Changed Everything
The turning point came after a large wedding fayre.
The year before, we had taken more than 20 bookings from the same event.
This time, we invested around ÂŁ4,000 expecting similar results.
Instead, we walked away with a single booking.
A competitor had slashed prices to a level that simply wasn’t sustainable, and the numbers no longer made sense.
On the drive home, I turned to my wife and said:
“I don’t know whether I want to do this anymore.”
Without hesitation, she replied:
“Yes. Let’s sell it.”

That conversation changed everything.
The wedding fayre wasn’t really the issue.
The real issue was that we had finally accepted something we’d known for a long time.
The cost wasn’t financial.
It was time.
Time we couldn’t get back.
“The cost wasn’t financial.
It was time.
Time we couldn’t get back.”
Looking back, a few key moments completely changed how I think about work, money, and family life. Here’s the journey that led to Flex For Families.
| The Journey | What I Learned |
|---|---|
| Started exploring online income | More income isn’t always more freedom |
| Built a successful wedding business | Success can come with hidden costs |
| Juggled business, work and family | Time becomes your most valuable asset |
| Sold the business | Sometimes letting go is the right decision |
| Created Flex For Families | Flexibility matters more than chasing income |
| Helping other parents today | Small steps can create big changes for families |
Why Flexibility Matters More Than Income

Selling the business forced me to rethink what success actually means.
For years, I thought success meant earning more.
Now I see it differently.
Success means:
- Being present for your family.
- Reducing financial stress.
- Having choices.
- Creating a lifestyle that works around the people you love.
Money matters.
But money without time isn’t freedom.
That’s why I believe flexibility is one of the most valuable things a parent can build.
Why I Started Flex For Families

I created Flex For Families to help parents build flexible income streams that fit around family life instead of competing with it.
This isn’t about getting rich overnight.
It’s not about quitting your job next month.
And it’s definitely not about chasing unrealistic promises.
It’s about creating options.
Whether that’s:
- Starting a blog.
- Learning affiliate marketing.
- Building an online income stream.
- Creating a side hustle.
- Finding a more flexible path forward.
My goal is simple:
Help parents move from overwhelmed to hopeful.
Help parents move from stuck to confident.
Help parents create opportunities that support their family rather than take them away from it.
A Real Parent Building This Alongside You

I’m not writing this from a beach somewhere.
I still work a day job.
Like many parents, I’m balancing work, family responsibilities, and building something for the future.
Some weeks go smoothly.
Some weeks don’t.
Life happens.
That’s why everything on Flex For Families is built around realistic expectations and practical advice.
No hype.
No shortcuts.
Just honest guidance from someone figuring it out alongside you.
The Values Behind Flex For Families

Family First
If an opportunity costs more family time than it’s worth, it’s probably not the right opportunity.
Honest Advice
You’ll find honest reviews, honest experiences, and honest expectations here.
If I don’t believe something will help families, I won’t recommend it.
Realistic Expectations
Building income online takes time.
I would rather help you succeed slowly than sell you a fantasy that doesn’t exist.
What Success Looks Like to Me

Success isn’t a flashy car.
It isn’t a screenshot of earnings.
It isn’t working every hour available.
Success is less financial stress.
More family time.
More freedom to choose how you spend your days.
If Flex For Families helps even one parent create more time with the people they love, then this site is doing exactly what it was created to do.
Because the ultimate success of building a blog or online income isn’t the money.
It’s what that flexibility allows you to do with the people who matter most.

Great story, John! I really connected with the idea that time is more valuable than money. So many people chase extra income without realizing how much family time it can cost. I appreciate how honest you are about your own journey and how Flex For Families is focused on realistic, flexible income ideas instead of quick promises. It feels very genuine and encouraging for parents who want more options without sacrificing what matters most.
Hi Hannah,
Thank you so much for your kind words. I’m really glad that part of the story resonated with you.
Looking back, one of the biggest lessons I learned was exactly that, time is the one thing you can never get back. We spent years working long hours alongside a wedding business, and while it helped financially, it also meant missing out on family time that we can’t replace. That experience shaped a lot of what Flex For Families is about today.
That’s why I’m so passionate about helping parents find income options that fit around family life rather than compete with it. I’m not interested in promoting unrealistic promises or “quit your job next month” schemes. I’d much rather help someone build something steady and flexible that gives them more choices and more time with the people who matter most.
Thank you again for taking the time to read my story and leave such a thoughtful comment. Comments like yours remind me why I started Flex For Families in the first place. ????
John
I agree wholeheartedly, time is something that money cannot buy and it is such a precious commodity that just seems to slip away in an instant. Even though you had a thriving business, you definitely made the right decision to sell it and look for something more flexible that would allow you more family time, which is something you can never get back.
Thank you so much for this comment.
Looking back, selling the business was one of the hardest decisions we’ve ever made, because on paper it seemed like everything was going well. But as you said, time is something you can never buy back.
At the time, it felt like we were constantly trading weekends and family moments for more work. It took a while to realise that success isn’t just measured by income or how busy you are. For us, success became much more about having the flexibility to be present for our family and especially for Will.
I don’t regret building the business because we learned so much from it, but I do wish we’d recognised sooner just how valuable those years and moments together were.
Thank you again for your kind words. That’s really the heart of why Flex For Families exists today, helping parents find ways to create more flexibility without sacrificing the time that matters most. ????
The line “we were chasing the right goal in the wrong way” is one of the most honest summaries of the entrepreneurial parent trap I’ve read. So many families sacrifice the very thing they’re working toward, time together, in pursuit of the financial means to eventually have it.
The wedding business story is particularly relatable because it illustrates something that gets overlooked: a business can be objectively successful and still be the wrong fit for where you are in life. Revenue and bookings don’t tell the whole story.
What stands out most about Flex For Families is the framing in terms of options rather than income targets. That’s a far more sustainable motivator, especially when progress is slow, and life keeps interrupting.
The transparency about still working a day job while building this is exactly the kind of honesty that builds real trust with an audience.
Hey Andrejs,
Thank you so much for this thoughtful comment.
You’ve captured one of the biggest lessons I learned from that period of my life. The wedding business wasn’t failing, quite the opposite. We had bookings, happy customers, and were growing. But as you said, success on paper doesn’t always mean it’s the right fit for your life.
The phrase “we were chasing the right goal in the wrong way” came from a lot of reflection afterwards. We wanted more freedom, more options, and more time together as a family. Ironically, the way we were pursuing those goals was taking us further away from them.
I also appreciate what you said about options versus income targets. That’s become a big part of how I think about success now. Of course, earning more can help, but what really matters is what that income allows you to do. More flexibility, more choices, and more time with the people who matter most.
And thank you for mentioning the day job. I think it’s important to be honest about where I am on the journey. Most parents building something online aren’t doing it from a beach with unlimited free time. They’re fitting it around work, school runs, family commitments, and everything else life throws at them.
I really appreciate you taking the time to leave such a thoughtful reflection. Comments like this remind me why I wanted to share the story in the first place. ????
All the best,
John
This article really spoke to me. As a mom with 3 kids, my days can be unpredictable because their school schedules are different, so a regular job is not always easy for me. Reading your story gave me hope that there are other ways to build something flexible and still be present for my family.
Hey Monica,
Thank you so much for sharing that. It really means a lot to know my story gave you some hope.
I can only imagine how busy life must be with three children on different school schedules. That’s exactly why I believe flexibility is so valuable. Every family is different, and a traditional 9-to-5 doesn’t always fit around real life.
One of the biggest things I’ve learned is that building something online doesn’t have to happen all at once. Small, consistent steps, even if it’s just 20 or 30 minutes when you can find the time, really do add up over the months.
That’s the reason I started Flex For Families. I wanted to show parents that there are realistic ways to build something around family life, rather than feeling like they have to choose between earning an income and being present for their children.
Thank you again for such a lovely comment. I genuinely wish you all the best on your own journey, and I hope you discover a path that gives you the flexibility you’re looking for. ????
All the best,
John
