MONAT is an established beauty MLM, but I would not recommend it as a first income option for most parents. This MONAT review examines the UK costs, sales requirements and available earnings evidence. You can earn from customer sales, but commissions are uncertain and the work extends well beyond posting about shampoo.
Heads up: This is a research-based review, checked on 28 October 2026. I have not joined MONAT, sold its products or tested its haircare. I am not using MONAT referral links. I am a Wealthy Affiliate member and affiliate, and may earn a commission if you join through links on my site.
If someone has suggested MONAT as something you can fit around the children, it is reasonable to investigate. Working from home sounds appealing when childcare, school hours and an existing job already fill your week.
The question is whether the business can make a worthwhile profit within the time and budget you actually have. Enjoying a product, liking your sponsor and seeing somebody else’s success story do not answer that question.
What Is MONAT Global?
MONAT Global is a beauty company that sells products through independent sellers called Market Partners. Its business opportunity uses multi-level marketing, usually shortened to MLM.
The UK website lists haircare, skincare, makeup and styling tools. Customers can buy products without becoming sellers, while Market Partners participate in the company’s compensation programme.
That distinction matters from the start. Being interested in shampoo does not mean you need a business account, a team or an income target.
| Question | What Parents Need To Know |
|---|---|
| What is the business? | Selling beauty products as an independent Market Partner |
| Is it employment? | No. There is no salary or guaranteed hourly pay |
| Is recruitment involved? | Team building is part of the compensation structure |
| Can customer sales generate earnings? | Yes, subject to the plan’s conditions |
| Is there an entry cost? | A required Starter Kit; confirm its current UK checkout price |
| Who is the review for? | Parents assessing the income opportunity, rather than a product recommendation |
Before You Join Any MLM…
Many parents join MLMs hoping for more freedom and flexibility. My guide explains how the model works, the common pitfalls to watch for, and the one question every parent should ask before signing up.
Read the MLM Parent Guide »Who Founded MONAT?
MONAT was launched in 2014 by the Urdaneta family. The company’s official history describes a family-owned business built around beauty products and direct selling.
A company having an operating history is useful background, but it does not establish that a new seller will make money. I would give more weight to the written agreement, compensation conditions and earnings disclosure than a founder story.
Quick Note: I’m John Crossley, founder of Flex For Families. I review online business opportunities through the lens of family life, focusing on costs, time commitments, risks, and whether they genuinely help parents create more flexibility.
What Does MONAT Sell?
MONAT sells beauty products, with haircare central to its identity. Its wider UK range means a seller may also discuss skincare, makeup or styling tools with customers.
For a business decision, the important issue is repeat demand at the actual price customers pay. A product having enthusiastic fans does not tell you how many people in your own audience will buy it regularly.
Compare the product, delivery cost and purchase conditions with alternatives customers already use. Ask whether people would still want it if the business opportunity disappeared from the conversation.
I have not tested MONAT’s products, so I cannot judge their performance or recommend them for a particular hair or skin concern. This article assesses the selling opportunity, not whether a formulation will suit you.
How Does The MONAT MLM Business Work?
Market Partners can receive compensation from customer sales and, when qualified, from activity within a sponsored team. The presence of both routes is what makes this an MLM opportunity rather than a straightforward retail affiliate programme.
The UK compensation plan linked by MONAT includes customer sales rewards, volume qualifications and bonuses associated with team structure. The linked document is labelled for enrolments on or after 1 December 2024, so confirm which version applies before signing.
You are running an independent selling activity. You need to attract customers, explain the offer accurately and maintain relationships, while meeting the relevant compensation conditions.
A sponsor can introduce you to the system. They cannot guarantee demand, turnover or profit.
How Much Does It Cost To Join MONAT In The UK?
MONAT requires a Starter Kit, but I could not reliably confirm a current UK checkout price from the public registration pages. I would check the final UK basket rather than publish an old price as though it were today’s offer.
The UK Policies And Procedures effective 1 April 2026 cap the Starter Kit at £200 and the first seven days’ commitment at £200. That is a contractual ceiling, not a quotation for the kit you will be offered.
The same policy lists annual renewal at £50 including VAT. An older opportunity page shows a different renewal figure, which is why the newer dated policy is the better reference.
Before paying, obtain the current kit price, any delivery charge, renewal terms and the exact contents in writing. A seller’s screenshot or a promotion from a previous year is not enough.
| Cost Area | What To Check |
|---|---|
| Required Starter Kit | Current UK checkout total and contents |
| Annual renewal | Current policy lists £50 including VAT |
| Optional product packs | Whether you actually need the products and can afford them |
| Samples and demonstrations | What you plan to use and who pays |
| Events and training | Attendance, travel, accommodation and whether optional |
| Marketing | Any paid tools, advertising or printing you choose |
Optional spending can still become expensive. A sponsor saying a bigger pack will help you “take the business seriously” does not make it a sound purchase for your household.

Do You Have To Buy Products Every Month?
Do not assume MONAT’s sales qualifications require you to personally buy that amount of product. The distinction between customer sales, personal purchases and volume points is essential.
MONAT’s UK policies prohibit mandatory inventory purchases. Its compensation documents use Personal Volume, or PV, for qualification, and customer activity can contribute to that volume.
The linked plan defines active status using 200 PV in a calendar month. PV is a points measure, not a pound amount, and it should not be translated into “you must spend £200 each month”.
Ask your prospective sponsor to show you the applicable definition and explain how customer orders qualify. Also ask what happens to each payment type if you do not meet a condition that month.
My concern is the practical temptation to fill a gap yourself. Buying products you would not otherwise purchase to preserve a bonus or rank still takes money out of the family budget, even when the purchase is technically optional.
Can You Make Money With MONAT Without Recruiting?
Yes, MONAT’s plan includes earnings from customer sales, so recruitment is not the only route to compensation. Higher-level team bonuses are a separate part of the opportunity and carry additional conditions.
That does not mean customer-only selling is automatically profitable. You need enough genuine demand to cover your costs, and customers need a reason to keep buying from you.
Before joining, ask for a customer-sales-only explanation. It should show the applicable commission calculation, any qualification conditions and how returns affect payment, without relying on a future team.
If every question about selling leads back to recruiting more Market Partners, I would pause. Someone who wants a small retail activity deserves a clear explanation of whether that activity makes financial sense on its own.
What Does MONAT’s Income Disclosure Actually Show?
MONAT’s 2025 US income disclosure reports modest earnings for many participants and a substantial share receiving no company commissions. It is more informative than a handful of success stories, although it cannot predict an individual UK result.
The official disclosure gives the following figures:
| 2025 US Measure | Reported Result |
|---|---|
| Average annual gross company-paid income across all Market Partners | $665 |
| Inactive participants, defined here as earning no company commissions during the year | 44% |
| Participants classified at the entry Market Partner rank | 91.69% |
| Entry-rank average annual gross income | $81 |
| Entry-rank median annual gross income | $8 |
The $8 median belongs to the entry-rank group, not all participants. The disclosure includes active and inactive Market Partners and excludes operating expenses and product resale profits or losses.
These are US dollar figures for US participants. I did not find a current public UK equivalent during this research, so I will not convert them into a supposed UK earnings forecast.
The disclosure’s annual “inactive” definition also differs from a compensation plan’s monthly qualification terminology. And no company commission does not, by itself, prove that somebody lost money.
For me, the evidence is a reason to budget cautiously. It does not support treating MONAT as dependable household income.
How Do You Work Out Whether MONAT Is Profitable?
You assess profitability by comparing actual business income with actual business costs, then considering the hours involved. A commission screenshot does not provide that full picture.
Keep product purchases for personal use separate from business spending. If you would never have bought a product without the opportunity, be honest with yourself about why the money left your account.
Here is a purely hypothetical example, not a MONAT earnings projection. If a selling activity produces £120 in commissions in a month and you spend £85 on business costs, the remaining £35 is before any relevant tax and before paying yourself for your time.
If that took 15 hours, the return is about £2.33 per hour before tax. A busy month of messages and posts can therefore produce a result that looks very different from the headline commission.
You can track this in a simple spreadsheet. Record income, refunds, purchases, other expenses and working hours, then review whether continuing makes sense.
What Is The Difference Between A VIP Customer And A Market Partner?
A VIP Customer buys products under MONAT’s customer programme, while a Market Partner joins the selling opportunity. These accounts serve different purposes and should not be presented as interchangeable.
The UK and Ireland VIP FAQ revised in April 2026 says joining VIP Perks requires an initial order of at least £60 and setting up a future Flexship order of at least £60. Flexship is a recurring order arrangement.
The FAQ describes 30- or 60-day schedules and says customers can change or cancel Flexship through their account. That makes it important to understand what you have scheduled, even if you initially joined for a discount.
If you simply want to buy a product, compare ordinary retail purchasing with the VIP terms. You do not need to become a seller just because someone suggests that it is the best way to get a deal.
Is Flexship Compulsory For Market Partners?
A Market Partner’s sales qualification is not the same thing as a compulsory personal Flexship order. Do not confuse the customer programme’s enrolment terms with the conditions for running the business.
Review the Market Partner agreement separately from any recurring order you choose to create. Ask whether an order is required by the written rules or merely recommended by the person enrolling you.
If you set up recurring deliveries, check the account before the next processing date. Changing an order, cancelling Flexship and terminating a business account are different actions, so retain confirmation of the action you requested.
How Much Work Would MONAT Involve For A Parent?
MONAT involves ongoing sales work, and fitting it around children does not remove that workload. The flexibility lies in when you do the work, not in having no work to do.
A realistic week may involve creating content, answering product questions, following up enquiries and supporting existing customers. Building a team can add onboarding, messages and meetings.
Those tasks can spread into small gaps throughout the day. A business that appears flexible on paper may feel intrusive if you are continually checking your phone during family time.
I would map out your available working hours before joining. Then ask whether the proposed sales approach fits those hours without relying on evenings you already need for rest.

Is MONAT’s Training And Support Enough To Make It Work?
Support may help you understand the products and processes, but it cannot guarantee a profitable customer base. Your experience will also depend on the people supporting you.
Before joining, ask to see the actual training timetable and a sample of the material. Find out whether support covers customer service, accurate product claims, record keeping and realistic budgeting, as well as motivation.
A sponsor may earn from activity within their team. That does not make their advice automatically wrong, but it gives you a reason to verify financial claims independently.
If a forecast feels unrealistic, ask for the underlying figures and a second opinion. Be especially careful with polished social posts or AI-generated explanations that sound authoritative but never identify the applicable policy or source.
Can You Get A Refund Or Leave MONAT?
MONAT publishes return and cancellation terms, but eligibility depends on the purchase, timing and conditions. Do not assume every expense can be recovered if you decide the business is unsuitable.
The UK refunds and cancellation policy sets out different treatment for ordinary product returns and Starter Kits or product packs. It also explains return authorisation and the effect of returning a kit on the Market Partner relationship.
Read that policy before ordering and retain a copy of the version you relied on. Ask customer support how it applies to your specific purchase, particularly if products have been opened or a promotion has special conditions.
To leave, check the business cancellation process and any separate recurring orders. Keep your request, confirmation and postage evidence where relevant, rather than relying only on a conversation with your sponsor.
Why Has MONAT Attracted Complaints?
MONAT has faced complaints and regulatory scrutiny, including a historical Florida consumer-protection settlement. Those issues are relevant background, but they need to be described accurately.
The Florida Attorney General’s settlement notice concerned alleged misleading practices involving product claims and purchasing arrangements, including discounts or free shipping linked to additional purchases. The claims deadline was in February 2021, so this is not a current refund scheme.
That history does not establish that every current seller is misleading customers. Nor does a complaint about a hair or scalp problem establish that a particular product caused it.
When reading reviews, distinguish product satisfaction, recurring-order problems, customer service and business earnings. They answer different questions, and a positive shampoo review does not prove that selling it is a good income opportunity.
Is MONAT Legitimate Or A Scam?
MONAT is an established company selling real products through an MLM structure. That is not the same as an endorsement of the opportunity for your circumstances.
I would not label it an illegal pyramid scheme without an applicable legal finding. Equally, the existence of products does not remove the need to examine compensation conditions, costs and realistic outcomes.
For a parent, “Can I make a worthwhile profit without putting pressure on my family?” is the more useful question. A business can operate legitimately and still be a poor choice for a particular household.
Before You Join Any MLM…
Many parents join MLMs hoping for more freedom and flexibility. My guide explains how the model works, the common pitfalls to watch for, and the one question every parent should ask before signing up.
Read the MLM Parent Guide »What Are MONAT’s Main Advantages And Drawbacks?
MONAT offers an established product range and a structured selling system, but the financial uncertainty and ongoing sales demands are substantial drawbacks for beginners. Here is the balance I would weigh.
| Potential Advantage | Practical Limitation |
|---|---|
| An existing range to sell | You still need customers willing to pay the price |
| Customer-sales earnings are possible | Customer demand and profit are not guaranteed |
| Company systems and a sponsor relationship | Support quality varies and incentives deserve scrutiny |
| Work can be scheduled from home | Follow-ups and messages can intrude on family time |
| Written policies are publicly available | Terms and compensation conditions take time to understand |
I would be particularly cautious if joining means using household bill money, borrowing or buying stock you have no clear plan to sell. The opportunity should be affordable without assuming that future commissions will repay the cost.
Who Might MONAT Suit, And Who Should Avoid It?
MONAT may be more relevant to someone with existing beauty customers, direct-selling experience and a firm spending limit. Even then, it needs a commercial assessment rather than enthusiasm alone.
Someone already serving an audience interested in beauty may be better placed to judge demand. They should still test the economics of customer sales and understand every agreement they sign.
I would avoid it if you need predictable pay, dislike selling or feel uncomfortable approaching friends. It is also a poor fit if a sponsor is encouraging purchases you cannot comfortably afford.
For a wider framework, my MLM guide for parents explains the questions to ask before joining any similar opportunity. Switching to another MLM does not automatically solve the underlying issue.
Would Blogging Be A Better Alternative To MONAT?
Blogging would be my preferred route to explore because you can build useful content without joining a product downline or buying beauty stock. It still takes work, carries costs and may never generate meaningful income.
With affiliate marketing, a blogger can recommend relevant products through content and earn commissions from qualifying referrals. There is no need to sponsor a team of sellers to develop that activity.
| Consideration | MONAT Selling | Blogging With Affiliate Marketing |
|---|---|---|
| Main work | Product sales, customer relationships and potentially team support | Research, writing, content updates and audience development |
| Product purchases | Consider kit, optional products and the applicable sales conditions | No need to hold beauty stock for an affiliate business |
| Dependence | MONAT’s range, agreement and compensation plan | Search and platform changes, affiliate terms and reader demand |
| Timing | Sales and follow-up work begin immediately | Building a useful content base can take considerable time |
| Income certainty | No guaranteed income | No guaranteed income |
Blogging costs can be controlled, but a paid platform or collection of tools can also become expensive. Start with a budget rather than assuming that a website is automatically the cheaper option.
I have been a Wealthy Affiliate member since September 2016 and am an affiliate. My Wealthy Affiliate review explains that option, including its limitations, so you can assess it without treating my recommendation as neutral or a promise of results.
About the Reviewer
Hi, I’m John Crossley, founder of Flex For Families.
I’m a parent, blogger, and online business owner who helps families find realistic ways to create more flexibility through blogging, affiliate marketing, and online business.
Like many people, I’ve spent years researching online opportunities, testing platforms, and learning how to separate genuine business models from expensive hype. I’ve also experienced the frustration of chasing opportunities that promised freedom but demanded more time away from family.
Today, I use that experience to review courses, side hustles, AI opportunities, and online business programmes through a simple lens:
Will this genuinely help parents create more flexibility, or will it create more pressure?
Every review on Flex For Families focuses on costs, time commitments, risks, and realistic expectations, so you can make informed decisions before investing your time or money.
Is MONAT Worth Joining As A Parent?
I would not recommend MONAT as the first income option for most parents. The customer acquisition work, qualification rules and uncertain returns deserve more caution than a simple “work from your phone” pitch suggests.
If you remain interested, get the current UK costs and agreement, assess a customer-only business case and set a spending limit before joining. Give yourself permission to decline if the numbers do not work.
My preference is to build something around useful content and an audience you understand. That is a slower project with its own risks, but it suits the approach I want to take with Flex For Families.
If you want to explore that route, start with my Parent Blogging Starter Kit. Use it to consider your topic, available time and budget before committing to paid tools or training.
Frequently Asked Questions
These answers cover the main distinctions parents should understand before deciding whether to join.
Is MONAT An MLM?
Yes. MONAT uses multi-level marketing, with compensation from customer sales and qualifying team activity. Its independent sellers are called Market Partners.
Is MONAT Legitimate?
MONAT is an established company selling real beauty products. That does not guarantee a seller will make a profit or make the opportunity suitable for every household.
How Much Does MONAT Cost To Join In The UK?
A Starter Kit is required. I could not verify a current public UK checkout price; the April 2026 policy caps the kit at £200 and lists annual renewal at £50 including VAT. Confirm the actual total before paying.
Do MONAT Market Partners Have To Buy Products Every Month?
Do not confuse volume qualifications with compulsory personal spending. MONAT’s UK policies prohibit mandatory inventory purchases, and customer sales can contribute to qualification. Check the current plan for the payment conditions that apply to you.
Can You Earn With MONAT Without Recruiting?
Yes. Customer-sales earnings are available under the compensation plan, subject to its conditions. Whether that activity produces a worthwhile profit depends on demand, costs and the work involved.
What Do MONAT Sellers Typically Earn?
MONAT publishes a US income disclosure, but I did not find a current public UK equivalent. The US evidence shows modest earnings for many participants and should not be presented as a forecast for an individual UK seller.
Is Flexship Compulsory?
The April 2026 UK and Ireland VIP FAQ requires a future Flexship order when enrolling in VIP Perks. That customer arrangement is different from a Market Partner’s business qualifications; do not assume a compulsory personal monthly order applies to sellers.
Why Do People Complain About MONAT?
Complaints can concern products, recurring orders, customer service or the business opportunity. Historical regulatory action is relevant context, but individual reports do not establish medical causation or every customer’s experience.
Is MONAT A Good Business For Busy Parents?
I would not recommend it as a first choice for most parents. Customer acquisition, follow-ups and possible team responsibilities take time, while income remains uncertain.
Is Blogging Better Than MONAT?
Blogging is my preferred route because it can build an audience without a product downline. It still requires sustained work, has costs and offers no guaranteed income, so compare both options against your budget and available time.
